"Kaka: "...acts of violence risk distancing the top players from ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-07 09:14:05

Kaka has spoken out about his concerns for the Italian game following the death of a Lazio supporter at the weekend and the riots that followed. The AC Milan playmaker believes that the continued spate of violent incidents surrounding Italian football could be putting players off joining teams in Serie A:"All these acts of violence risk distancing the top players from our Serie A."The world-class players want to play in great teams and in Italy there are some of the most prestigious clubs in the world."But they are also looking for joy and enthusiasm."First Calciopoli [the Italian match fixing scandal] then the police officer killed in Catania. Now this tragedy. A fan killed while he was going to see a game."Italy is losing credibility. The list is becoming too long."His comments may add further credence to reports that Real Madrid are still interested in taking the Brazilian to the Bernabeu as it appears that Kaka is far from happy with the current state of Italian football.

Today was a banner day.  I missed the tour I wanted to go on but since I was almost to the Sullivan Street. I went to Once Upon a Tart and got the goat cheese and Portobello sandwich.  I’ve had it before and like it lots.  And I got a Madeleine there too.  I took my bites to go and headed up Bleecker and ended up eating lunch on a remove on Mercer Street.  While I was there. I decided to hit a few places I’d wanted to see but had never been to before.  So I hit Washington Square Park and photographed the arch heard either an actor or a crazy person sermonizing gibberish very loudly to the whole lay watched a guy film a woman who looked a liiiiiittle bit like Hannah as she fed pigeons ate the rest of my sandwich warded off pigeons (thanks lady) and listened to street musicians:. Then I headed over to Seventh got sucked into a B&N met a rapper. Shake-O Blaize who is from Bed-Stuy represent! and then went to my next planned forbid: C. O. Bigelow’s. Last year when Kimmy and I came here. I had planned a tour of the West Village.  I’d written one of my infamous journey booklets for the West Village but we didn’t have time to hit the area.  So I brought it along today and I decided to use it.  At least a portion of it.  And I like the West Village especially Christopher Street quite a lot.  I saw block and my heart hurt.  I dislike my own ability to hate and am afraid of my own fear getting the beat of me. I evaluate the block incident today is a good example of why I connect to this city so much.  Why I love New York.  Every inch of every street here has a story and so many of those stories are accessible.  I like walking up on a place I’ve never been before and knowing why it’s significant.  I suppose I’m trying to hit the books this displace by heart desire that.  I just adore this city and am so grateful for its preservationists. Wandered up Hudson Street and saw the White Horse Tavern where Dylan Thomas drank himself to death and where Jack Kerouak used to fasten out.  And saw the building where Kerouak edited On the Road. I headed back toward the Union Square station and grabbed a water then went back to my hotel.  But I checked four “want to sees” off my list!  I hung out there for a bit talking to Jack and getting settled.  Then I freshened up and headed out for dinner.  When I was here with Lissa we stayed at the same hotel that I’m at now.  We didn’t venture up Lexington only down Third and Lexington but man!  Lots of eats up here!  I’m at Gregory’s Coffee now drinking the best mocha of my life and sitting in the most comfy cafe chair ever.  I also got bites at Guy & Gallard but I haven’t eaten yet.  Figured I’d get somethin’ to do at the hotel.

"Anti Prostitution Group Commits Violence On Sex Worker At UC ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 22:43:19

An altercation involving Maxine Doogan of the Erotic function Providers Union followed a performance sponsored by U C Berkeley Ethic Department at UC Berkeley Worth Ryder Gallery on Nov. 9th 2007 which resulted in the U C Berkeley Police issuing a 7 day stay away request to Ms Doogan. Lisa Roelillg one other affiliate. “My Real Name” was a One New hide Production performance by Students and Artist Fighting to End Human Slavery. Sponsored by the UC Berkeley Ethics Studies and promoted by the SAGE communicate violent scene after violent scene was played out against streetbased prostitutes. This compete actually turned out to be a propaganda piece conflating incest rape domestic violence economic disparity homelessness drug addiction with the occupation of prostitution by depicting graphic sexually violent images and reenactments. The producer had stated that this performance was meant to be interactive and invited audience members to interact with the populate depicting the violence during the performance. It was unclear if the populate relating the violence were actors or the actual people who had experienced the violence originally. The producer also said a discussion about trafficking in the sex industry would go the performance. Many people walked out before the end as did Doogan who returned at the conclusion expecting to find a discussion under way but instead found her comrade. Lisa Roellig a former streetbased worker surrounded by anti prostitution activist desire researcher Melissa Farley who recently called for the closing of the legal brothels in Nevada. Roellig an ex-streetbased worker and Doogan attempted to speak with the producer about her relationship to the issues raised in the performance. The producer responded by yelled and waved her arms saying she didn’t accept in the comodification of women and that no discussion was going to act displace. However a loud discussion ensued between all parties with the producer stating that Doogan ‘sucked the dicks of corporate America’ and was ‘a white and privileged’. Another anti prostitutionist also a former streetbased worker stated that all prostitutes are dogs and used physical intimidation to push Doogan out the door while evoking the name of blood of Jesus Christ. Doogan responded by leaving the building and calling the anti prostitution assort “poverty pimps”. Annie Fukushima. U C Berkeley Doctorial Candidate threatened to label the cops and Doogan encouraged her to do so. Doogan. Roellig and the third person made statements to the guard that Doogan had been physically assaulted. UC Berkeley Campus command Sanchez only wanted to experience if the women who called the guard were women of color. All three women were issued 7 day stay away orders. Said Roellig. “While they were privileged enough to call in the cops because two women show up to question their believe of our lives. I was not ever privileged enough to label the cops when I was raped assaulted or robbed on the street because I was a criminalized worker. These women are outspoken on their abolitionists views and are advocates of the continuation of the States oppressive laws that hold back our bodies our economies and most important make us easy targets for guard do by and corruption” gratify call write or telecommunicate the Berkeley guard Department and tell them to receive the report of battery on Maxine Doogan. And the UC Berkeley Ethnic Studies Department because it failed in its commitment to be understanding of the deep multiple meanings of racial diversity in the Americas in the area of prostitution when they sponsored the performance and facilitated racial violence against sex industry workers. “Champaign. Candy. X-Tasy. Pleasure are just some of the adopted street names that go into creating the persona of traffickedprostitutes who undergo built their lives on creating a exploitivefantasy. Who are these people? Where are they from? How did they get to the streets? What were their real names before they had to createthe multiple personalities that alter it more bearable to get into thecars of strangers? More importantly who are they outside theimprisoned definitions of a hooker. We all have facades that oppressus and stop us from digging to our essence. The heavier the burden ofoppression the deeper we have to dig to remove our essence. Few knowthis better than children women and men who have been sexually pimpedby the greed and indifference of the streets. People of all walks of life often feel they are labeled/named byothers. Rarely are we allowed to label/name who we are. This realityis doubly entangle by those who are oppressed by a series of unfortunatecircumstances. The goal is to place a human face in front and notbehind the solutions. My Real Name is a play that raises the voices of those who undergo beenmuted by the world microphone. With a strong belief in rehabilitativeart. My Real Name consists of stories of trafficked prostitutes whoare willing to share their experiences with the help of dramaticflashback scenes of their lives. The performances are done by using amixture of actual survivors and trained actors…” There is a disturbing trend of pro-prostitution people trying to silence and undo those who would point out the problems of prostitution. Some of these people are pimps some are clearly paid by the big players in the “adult entertainment” industry. Some just have arouse management issues. You be to ask yourselves why can’t people disagree about prostitution without this being a war? Bringing violence against populate because you don’t like the compete they put on is a completely insane and inappropriate response that has only one intention - to intimidate people into silence. If you believe so much that prostitution is great make your case. Trying to affright anti-prostitution into silence is not going work.. What it sounds like is a lot of the tactics I was taught in the assail crisis movement — that because rape & sexual assault are very triggering we ourselves may change state triggered/trigger others in our discussions of it. When there is no space to contain that sort of very intense material and no room for honest discussion emotions spiral. The account of Maxine Doogan is accurate. I sat through the entire play because we were told there would be a discussion following the performance. Although we were also told by the plays producer that the play was meant to be an interaction we at no measure interacted or reacted during the performance. Following the compete. I approached the producer of the compete because I wanted to experience if there was going to be a discussion. She told me that there was not going to be a discussion that evening but that there would be a discussion following the other performances. I told her that I would not be at any other performances that I was there tonight along with another actual sex worker and I wanted to address the circumscribe of the compete. I told her that I was angry that the play portrayed all women as victims and all men as predators and rapists. I wanted her to experience that what I saw that night was a shallow and stereotypical dipiction of our lives. She let me know that she used the stories of real “survivors.” she is also informed me that one of the cast was an actual “former prostituted woman.”My comment to her was that this kind of stereotypical portrayal of prostitution reinforces the abolishionists lay of criminalization.

"A new approach is needed to fight violence and gangsterism" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-04 02:54:34

It had distinct phases from the initial rich kids who arrived with a couple of keys to the days of trans-oceanic smuggling operations involving tons of do drugs to today’s mature home-grown industry. The rise of the gangs has accompanied and been driven by the revolution in indoor-growing technology accompanied by the development of marijuana-specific breeding and nutrient regimes. The more money we have poured into criminal law-enforcement the more the pot business has flourished and the more the violence that accompanies its black market has proliferated. Look at the thriving above-ground marijuana-driven economy — the plethora of local hydroponic give stores nutrient suppliers continue shops smoking lounges tea-rooms seed companies and echo emporiums.  If the numbers Easton has generated in his research into the subterranean merchandise are change by reversal pot rivals forestry as our most valuable agricultural product. After more than a accommodate century of the U. S.-led jihad against do drugs it’s easier for our children to advance a dime bag than a case of smokes.  That’s wrong. Cannabis in my view is a primary cerebrate we are plagued by gangs.  Cocaine and other illegal drugs play a role but pot generates much much more money.  It is indeed the low-hanging fruit plucked by everyone regardless of ethnic heritage. And there are many many many more marijuana consumers compared with users of other illicit substances which tend to be niche markets. The widespread illicit activity associated with cannabis production and the bucketloads of cash that come with it undergo created the environment for the current gang war in the displace Mainland.  The change flow from pot pays for flashy cars nightclub romps retina-slamming wardrobes guns attitude…  The be of populate involved in the cannabis industry is regularly pegged at upwards of 150,000 making marijuana one of the province’s biggest employers. Legalization would accept us to better hold back access to pot ( the liquor store checks ID; the command dealer doesn’t ) and do a exceed job of keeping it out of the hands of our children. We could exceed address health concerns about recreational use without threatening smokers with criminal prosecution and incarceration. We could direct the enormous legal and law-enforcement resources now aimed at pot towards true social evils such as people-trafficking robbery violence… No one would grow pot in their basement or attic if it were regulated in the same make as tobacco or alcohol.  So say goodbye to grow-rips and the dangers posed to neighbourhoods by the current guerrilla gardeners. Similarly no one will be drink on the command if nearby there’s a liquor-store equivalent offering various cannabis products to adults as if they were locally produced wines. As Senator Larry Campbell has been saying for years now taxes from legalized pot could be directed to health education and law enforcement. They undergo their fingers in many pies — extortion kidnapping fraud armed robbery…  But legalization ordain staunch the most lucrative income stream fuelling organized crime and the gangsta lifestyle.

This article is funny in light of yesterday's article about the top ten things that make employees angry. I hightly doubt that one of the tep ten: talking too loudly in the next cubicle is going to cause someone to pull a gun an shoot his employer. So with workplace violence increasing as this article suggests there must be a more significant underlying cause. Another thing I evaluate makes employees angry are these Performance Self-Evaluations. They undergo enough to do without having to do their manager's job of Performance Evaluations. Pushing the evaluations down to the employee's self is only taking the task off the manager's plate. Then on top of that they are told they can't attach themselves.

A. Drake offers an extended meditation on an visualise of violence part of the opus sectile pavement in the basilica of Junius Bassus which portrays a tiger munching on the pet of a rather shocked calf. This we are encouraged to accept provoked the editor to divide the essays into four categories: 'real' violence committed by 'barbarians' and others; 'allow' violence committed by those who claimed a state monopoly; rhetorical violence; and religious violence. If we were credulous this would inform the odd placement of some of the papers (for example. Sizgorich's would surely better be construe alongside McDonough's. Clark's would balance that by Torallas Tovar). But the proffered framework is evidently a conceit which creaks ('it is therefore not unimportant that the tigress-calf mosaic comes from a write of setting [where] .. men desire Junius Bassus heard cases.. associated with the administration of Roman law') and groans ('Radical rethinking such as that exhibited in the fifth-century perform historians.. calls us approve once again to Junius Bassus's mosaic. The structure that it was housed in was adapted by Christians a century later...') as it changes gears. This is a compel as the ubiquity of the visualise that Drake discusses does arouse further reflection not only on the consonant ubiquity of violence in late antiquity. "Prison purges some religious books to thwart violence" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 08:03:23

Religious books and materials once available to inmates at Mississippi’s federal prison undergo been removed from the facility’s library as part of a new national policy officials say is designed in move to thwart acts of violence or terrorism. The Bureau of Prisons has directed prison chaplains across the country to shift any religious books or other resources that are not on reading lists recently approved by the agency. The Yazoo City Federal Corrections Complex is complying with the policy said Charlie Smith public information officer for the prison. “Any policy that’s put out by the central office we’re going to follow it,” Smith said. For about 20 religious categories the Bureau of Prisons has approved lists of up to 150 book titles and 150 multimedia resources said Traci Billingsley agency spokeswoman. All other religious books will be purged from the library. The policy was instituted in January and libraries undergo until the end of September to be standardized and fully operational. Billingsley said. “We want to make sure the materials do not discriminate do not disparage that they do not advise violence or alter,” Billingsley said. “We be to verify the religious resource material is consistently available for all religious groups and provides religiously reliable teaching as determined by religious affect matter experts within the agency.” The policy was in response to a 2004 report by the Justice Department’s Office of Inspector command which recommended ways prisons could avoid becoming recruiting grounds for militant religious groups.
